Training

My first career was in IT but I soon became despondent with the work so studied part-time for 5 years to become an osteopath, qualifying in 1998 from the College of Osteopaths, London.

Experience

I have been practising for 10 years and moved my main practice from Holmfirth to Kirkburton 3 years ago.  I also work in Sheffield one day a week and recently moved to a new clinic called Wellforce Complementary Medicine.  Working at a multi-disciplinary clinic such as this has enabled me to gain a greater understanding and knowledge of other alternative/complementary therapies.

I have worked at several children’s clinics including the Osteopathic Centre for Children (OCC) in London and now work voluntarily at the Manchester Osteopathic Centre for Children.  These clinics are centres of excellence which have provided me with invaluable experience in developing cranial osteopathic and paediatric skills to treat babies and children up to 16 years of age, and pregnant and post-partum mothers.

I regularly go on courses developed by the Sutherland Cranial College which is a college of excellence.  This enables me to further develop my skills in an academic, structured environment through an on-going assessment of my knowledge and practical abilities.

I do enjoy my work and am very passionate about it.  I do not regard osteopathy as a panacea for all ills but over the years have realised that it has great potential to heal.  I believe the length of the appointments reflects the care and attention required for each patient and by their very nature my treatments are never quick.  The body does not have deadlines.

Registration

I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council which was established by an Act of Parliament. The Council exists to protect patients by promoting excellence in osteopathic care. Only those who have demonstrated safe and competent practice are thereby admitted to its statutory register and are allowed to call themselves osteopaths and practice as such. All osteopaths on the register must have medical malpractice insurance and follow a strict code of conduct.

Personal

I live in Highburton with my wife, Katherine, a full-time mum, and we have 3 young children, Lucy, Jake and Daniel.

I enjoy road cycling, walking in Scotland and hope to one day get back on a snowboard.
